In a thriller the Columbus Crowd staged a dramatic comeback then held on to
win over the hapless Illinois Patriots by a score of 5 to 3 at Truist
Park.
Columbus came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning plating 3
runs on 5 hits. Ramon Urias kicked off the action when he doubled. Jordan
Westburg stepped up to the plate and he stroked a base-hit knocking in a run.
Harrison Bader then delivered a one-base hit. Bader was safe at second on a
stolen base. Josh Jung stepped into the box and slapped a single accounting
for two more runs. For the game Columbus out-hit Illinois 14 to 7.
Andrew Kittredge(4-1) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory.
Kittredge got relief help from Devin Williams who gained credit for his 25th
save. Aaron Civale(1-5) was charged with the loss in relief. Columbus
scored big getting 3 runs off him in 2 and 1/3 innings.
Frank Lopeman was feeling mighty fine as he answered questions in his office
after the game, 'Now that was one fine ending! Did you see how the crowd just
sat there in silence after the winning run scored? Here we are celebrating
wildly, and the stadium is cloaked in virtual silence. Weird. but GREAT!'
