14,847 fans were treated to a fine game at Long Grove CG as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Woodfield Roadkyll registered 4
runs in the 2nd inning and won by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.
Max Meyer(2-4) had a solid outing for Woodfield. He surrendered 4 hits and 1
walk in 5 and 2/3 innings. Meyer mowed down 6 Vernon batters. For the game
Woodfield out-hit Vernon 11 to 5.
Sean Newcomb got the save, his 2nd. Sandy Alcantara(5-13) ended up with the
loss. He got hammered, allowing 10 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings.
The win by Woodfield is a very welcome one as they have been struggling in
recent days. Their record now stands at 49-81 - only 2-8 in their last ten
games. Not able to get much going in recent weeks, Vernon is 0-10 of late
and now has an overall record of 48-82.
