In a great finish the Columbus Crowd came back in the top of the ninth and
held on to win over the Vernon Hillbillies by a score of 4 to 3 at Long Grove
CG.
Columbus won the game with a rally in the top of the 9th inning with 2 runs on
3 base hits. Alec Burleson got things going when he stroked a one-base hit.
C.J. Abrams next to the plate and he was hit by a pitch. Drake Baldwin was a
strikeout victim, unable to help out. Jordan Westburg stepped in and he
banged out a single to load the bases. Brayan Rocchio stepped into the box
and lashed a base-hit driving home two runs. Columbus had 11 hits overall,
while Vernon had 6.
The victory was credited to Tarik Skubal(12-3) who went 8 innings, allowing 2
runs. Skubal was helped out by Devin Williams who recorded his 20th save.
The losing pitcher was Hurston Waldrep(0-1) in relief.
With this win, Columbus has a 61-39 record. They have been 7-3 lately.
Vernon has recorded a poor 2-8 record in their last 10 games. Their overall
record is now 38-62, worst in the division.
