Logan Gilbert took a no-hitter into the 6th inning and George Springer slammed
a homerun and had 3 RBI at Leones Field as the Caracas Leones beat the
Palatine Cubs 7 to 0.
The Caracas fans enjoyed the offense provided by Springer. He clubbed a
two-run home run in the 2nd inning, laced a one-base hit in the 6th inning
and doubled which scored a run in the 8th inning. Caracas had 11 hits for
the night.
Gilbert(9-1) got the win allowing no runs in 6 innings. The right-handed
Gilbert lost his chance for a no-hitter when Jose Altuve singled with nobody
out in the 6th inning. Gilbert got relief help from Mike Burrows who gained
credit for his 8th save. Jake Irvin(7-3) was tagged with the loss. He
surrended 3 homeruns in his 5 innings.
Caracas continued their winnings ways improving their record to a division
leading 57-33. They are 8-2 in their last ten games. With the loss,
Palatine has a record of 5-5 lately, 47-43 overall.
