46,749 fans watched an exciting game at Comerica Park. The Gotham Gold Gloves
topped the Hollywood Marines by the slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.
Gotham brought 3 runs across the plate in the top of the 6th inning when they
came up with 3 base hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Lawrence
Butler who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he belted a
three-run homer. Gotham rapped out 8 hits for the night.
Eric Lauer(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 innings and allowing 4
runs. Lauer got help from Raisel Iglesias who earned his 4th save. The
losing pitcher was Merrill Kelly(2-6). He was knocked around by Gotham,
allowing 8 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
The Gotham ballclub's record now stands at 22-21. Hollywood will hope that
this loss is only a 'blip' on their recent 9-1 run - and not a start of a new
trend.
