Francisco Alvarez knocked 2 homeruns and scored 3 times and Jack Flaherty
racked up an impressive total of 10 strikeouts as the Gotham Gold Gloves
defeated the pathetic Dublin Pubcrawlers by a score of 9 to 0 at Edsel
Stadium.
Alvarez made sure the Gotham fans enjoyed themselves. He lofted a solo-blast
'downtown' in the 4th inning, hit a bases-empty home run in the 6th inning
and slapped a base-hit in the 8th inning. Gotham had 12 hits for the night
while Dublin had 4.
Flaherty(11-4) was the winner allowing no runs in 6 innings. Nestor
Cortes(10-11) was the losing pitcher. He was not very effective,
surrendering 6 runs in 5 innings.
The Gotham fans were thrilled by the performance put forth by Flaherty, but it
was clearly his strikeouts that they enjoyed most. 'When he reached 10
strikeouts the fans showed him their appreciation with a loud cheer.' Mike
Wilson said following the game.
