Jared Triolo had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Gerrit Cole came through with a
solid 7 innings as the Vernon Hillbillies defeated the Columbus Crowd by the
score of 4 to 2 at The Horseshoe.
The game started off with Vernon taking the lead in the first with 3 runs
using 4 hits. Alex Verdugo led off and got things going when he slapped a
single. Isaac Paredes followed next and he singled. Johan Rojas was next to
bat, but he was a strikeout victim. Jonah Heim stepped in and he slapped a
one-base hit driving in a run. One out later, Triolo stepped up to the plate
and he stroked a base-hit which was good for two more runs. Triolo took
second on the throw. That was all Cole(3-4) needed. Vernon had 8 hits
overall, while Columbus had 5.
Bryse Wilson preserved the game for Cole, recording his his 7th save. Zac
Gallen(6-9) was charged with the loss. The Vernon ballclub's record now
stands at 46-81. With the loss, Columbus has a record of 4-6 lately, 66-61
overall.
