Gerrit Cole reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts and Blake Sabol touched them
all and had 3 RBI at Busch Stadium where the Vernon Hillbillies beat the
Tampico Stogies in 10 innings 5 to 2.
Both teams had scored 2 runs after nine full innings. Vernon was victorious
in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Sean Murphy initiated the
scoring spurt when he drew a walk. Sabol came next and he lofted a three-run
bomb. Vernon finished with 9 hits while Tampico ended up with 5.
The victory was credited to Tyler Holton(1-0) who went 1 and 1/3 innings,
allowing no runs. Reynaldo Lopez(0-3) was the losing pitcher in relief. He
pitched 1 and 2/3 innings allowing 1 hit and 1 walk.
