In a startling finish the Dallas Gibsons staged a comeback then held on to win
over the Aarlington Aardvarks by a score of 5 to 4 at Aarlington
Field.
Dallas erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning as they scored 4
runs on 2 base hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Charlie Blackmon who
helped quiet the crowd when he caught a hold of a bad pitch for a Grand Slam
homerun. Dallas banged out 10 hits on the night.
Garrett Whitlock(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 2/3 innings
and allowing 2 runs. The losing pitcher was Phil Maton(1-2) in relief. He
gave up 3 runs in 1/3 of an inning and saw his ERA jump from 1.69 to 6.35.
Steve Linke was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough loss.
He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a terse,
yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to lose.
Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin' on us
tonight'
