Designated hitter Jorge Soler ripped 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI at West Side
Park as the Chicago Whales beat the Dallas Gibsons 12 to 8.
Soler had a great evening at the plate. He had the crowd cheering his every
move. He singled in the 1st inning, smashed a two-run homer in the 3rd
inning, launched a three-run homer in the 4th inning and lashed a single in
the 8th inning. Dallas was not lacking for run support as they scored in 5
separate innings, yet victory eluded them as they seemed to forget that
pitching is also needed to win ballgames.
Kyle Gibson(1-0) was the winner allowing 6 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings. Pete
Fairbanks got the save, his 1st. The losing pitcher was Eduardo
Rodriguez(0-2). Chicago knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 10 runs in 3
and 1/3 innings.
'The ball was jumping off my bat' Soler said. 'I didn't do anything
differently, it's the same way I always approach the game.'
