In a startling finish the Vernon Hillbillies staged a comeback then held on to
win over the Burbank Tigers by a score of 6 to 5 at Burbank Park.
Vernon had the winning rally in the 9th inning as they scored 4 runs on 5 base
hits. The key at-bat was by Taylor Ward who deflated the crowd as he cleared
the fences for a two-run home run. Vernon banged out 9 hits on the night.
Collin McHugh(4-4) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 and 1/3 innings.
McHugh was helped out by Emmanuel Clase who recorded his 6th save. Josh
Hader(1-3) was the losing pitcher in relief.
After the game, it took a long while before Wes Davies emerged from his
office. In a subdued tone he answered only a couple of questions. He
concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry I'm not in a very talkative mood tonight, as
I think you'll understand. I'm sure you'll find the banter a lot more
light-hearted over in the Vernon locker room.'
