Pete Alonso slammed a homerun and had 4 RBI at Comerica Park as the Hollywood
Marines came back dramatically to top the Holland Heffalumps by the score of
6 to 5.
Hollywood came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning with 3 runs using 2
hits. After an out was recorded, Jonathan Schoop jump-started the rally as
he ripped a base-knock. Austin Riley came next and he was hit by a pitch.
Alonso then rifled a three-run blast making Hollywood the victor and
beginning a joyous home town celebration. Hollywood finished with 11 hits
while Holland ended up with 7.
Nick Sandlin(3-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing
no runs. Jose Alvarez(8-2) was tagged with the loss in relief. His ERA
ballooned from 2.43 to 3.13 as he allowed 3 runs in 1/3 of an inning.
Brian Anderson was in great spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when
asked about his feelings after the thrilling comeback victory, he
volunteered, 'I'll tell you this much - I know how my counterpart, Steve
Seydell, feels right now - and it's not very good. It's terrible when you
come up on the short end of one of these!'
