Joey Votto cracked a homer and had 3 RBI and Caleb Smith racked up an
impressive total of 10 strikeouts at Chase Field as the Dublin Pubcrawlers
beat the Streator Reds by the count of 8 to 1.
It was a good day for Dublin thanks to Votto. He tripled bringing in a run in
the 1st inning, doubled in the 5th inning and cleared the fences for a
two-run home run in the 7th inning. Streator was out-hit by Dublin, 10 hits
to 4.
The victory went to Smith(1-0) who went 7 innings, allowing 1 run. Yu
Darvish(2-2) was the loser. Despite taking the loss, he whiffed 11 batters
in 6 and 2/3 innings.
Adam Smith was asked about the performance of Smith, 'He had his good stuff
out there tonight. The fans really get into it when the strikeouts start
mounting up - and that seems to give him even more adrenalin.'
