Justin Smoak smashed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI at West Side Park as the mighty
Chicago Colts beat the Streator Reds by the count of 21 to 18.
It seemed that Streator pitching was serving up softballs for Smoak to hit.
He stroked a single knocking in a run in the 1st inning, lofted a three-run
bomb in the 5th inning and hit a bases-empty home run in the 8th inning.
Chicago lit up the scoreboard in the 2nd inning which saw them score 5 runs
on 5 hits and the 4th inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 4 hits. Streator
made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs
across.
Luis Cessa(4-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 4 and 1/3 innings and
allowing 4 runs. Alec Mills(1-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He was
unable to control the Chicago offense and allowed 6 hits and 2 walks in 2
innings.
Rich Domovic was beaming after the game, 'Not only were we making good
contact, but a lot of balls we hit seemed to have 'eyes'! I just love winning
these tight ones! It was just our evening - no doubt about it!'
