Left fielder Brandon Belt went deep and had 2 RBI and Max Scherzer whiffed 10
batters as the Vernon Hillbillies rallied impressively to win in dramatic
style over Caracas Leones, 7 to 6.
Vernon had the winning rally in the top of the 9th inning with 3 runs on 3
hits. Ozzie Albies opened up the inning nicely when he laced a one-base hit.
Two outs later Yolmer Sanchez came to bat and ripped a single plating a run.
Belt then clubbed a two-run home run. Caracas was not lacking for run
support as they scored in 5 separate innings, yet victory eluded them as they
seemed to forget that pitching is also needed to win ballgames.
The win went to Jesse Chavez(4-3) who allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings.
Chavez got relief help from Raisel Iglesias who gained credit for his 7th
save. The loss was charged to Ken Giles(0-2) in relief.
'John Stryker was estatic following the game, 'You love stealing one on the
road like this. We just kept plugging away until we pulled it out!'
