The California Luv broke out of their 8 game losing streak and bested the
hapless Woodfield Roadkyll by a 10 to 7 score at Englefield Green.
Manny Machado was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he
provided much of the offense for the visitors. He delivered a one-base hit
in the 1st inning, stroked a base-hit plating a run in the 2nd inning and
smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 6th inning. Woodfield made it
exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
The winning pitcher was Sean Newcomb(1-4) who allowed 6 runs in 8 and 1/3
innings. Jimmy Nelson(7-9) was the losing pitcher. He allowed California 6
runs in 3 and 2/3 innings of work.
'It felt really nice to get this win,' Newcomb said. 'I kind of dictated the
game. It's what I get paid to do. It worked out this time.'
