Brett Gardner had 2 base hits and Luis Severino took a no-hitter into the 7th
inning as the Tampico Stogies outscored the Tombstone Huckleberries 7 to
0.
Severino(2-0) was simply too much for the Tombstone batters. He was stingy on
the mound, allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings. Severino chalked
up 10 strikeouts reducing his ERA from 1.00 to 0.56. The right-handed
Severino lost his no-hit bid when Josh Reddick singled with two outs in the
7th inning. Overall Tampico out-hit Tombstone 13 to 3.
The losing pitcher was Carlos Carrasco(0-1). He allowed a few too many
baserunners giving up 11 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings.
The Tampico fans were thrilled by the performance put forth by Severino, but
it was clearly his strikeouts that they enjoyed most. 'When he reached 10
strikeouts the fans showed him their appreciation with a loud cheer.' Mike
Aldrich said following the game.
