Max Scherzer racked up an impressive total of 10 strikeouts as the phenomenal
Vernon Hillbillies defeated the Gotham Gold Gloves by the score of 5 to 3 at
Long Grove CG.
Scherzer(13-6) earned his pay with a solid performance for Vernon. He allowed
7 hits and 4 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings and allowed 2 gopher balls. Vernon
finished with 7 hits in the victory.
Danny Duffy recorded his 4th save. Chris Rusin(5-4) suffered the loss. The
Vernon fans were thrilled by the performance put forth by Scherzer, but it
was clearly his strikeouts that they enjoyed most. 'When he reached 10
strikeouts the fans showed him their appreciation with a loud cheer.' John
Stryker said following the game.
