Designated hitter Carlos Beltran had 3 base hits as the Oakland Athletics
defeated the hapless Burbank Tigers 6 to 5 at Camden Yards.
Burbank found themselves trailing quickly as the Oakland bats came through in
the first inning plating 2 runs on 5 base hits. David Freese led off and
started the attack as he stroked a single. Chris Iannetta stepped up next
and he grounded into a double play. Beltran then laced a base-knock. Jace
Peterson came up and he lined a one-base hit. Peter Bourjos stepped into the
box and slapped a base-hit plating a run. Andrew Romine kept things alive
and delivered a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. Burbank had a
chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
Jameson Taillon(5-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and
allowing 3 runs. Kevin Siegrist recorded his 6th save. Wade Miley(1-5) was
charged with the loss. Oakland scored big getting 6 runs off him in 5 and
2/3 innings.
Wes Davies was clearly disappointed after the game. 'It was a manager's
nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have had this one.'
