TEAM RISP- Crowd: 5 for 16 Islanders: 5 for 14
Alcides Escobar connected with a 'big fly' and had 5 RBI at Progressive Field
as the San Ybel Islanders pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the Columbus
Crowd by the count of 10 to 9.
San Ybel came through with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the 9th
inning scoring 3 runs on 2 hits. Dexter Fowler led off and started the rally
when he drew a walk. Jake Lamb came to the plate and drew a walk. Adam Lind
was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. David Murphy came up and he
slapped a base-hit resulting in a run. Pablo Sandoval came up to bat and hit
a sacrifice fly scoring one more run. Chris Stewart kept things alive and
was walked intentionally. Freddy Galvis followed and he reached on an error.
Escobar then ripped a single resulting in an exciting win for San Ybel and a
wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. Columbus was not lacking
for run support as they scored in 5 separate innings, yet victory eluded them
as they seemed to forget that pitching is also needed to win ballgames.
Carlos Villanueva(5-4) was the winner allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Brian Matusz(1-3) suffered the loss in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning
and surrendered 1 hit and no walks.
With this win, San Ybel has a 70-79 record. They have been 6-4 lately.
Columbus has a record of 67-82 after the loss.
