Kelly Johnson slammed 2 homeruns and Roenis Elias closed the door on San Ybel
as the Columbus Crowd defeated the San Ybel Islanders 9 to 8 at Progressive
Field.
Johnson was unconscious out there. While San Ybel pitching was serving
softballs up there for him to hit, the San Ybel fans were serving up some
hardball barbs when he entered the batter's box. But he just used it as fuel
for the fire. He cracked a two-run shot in the 1st inning and cleared the
bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the 3rd inning. San Ybel made it exciting
in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
Eduardo Rodriguez(8-5) got the win allowing 7 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings. Elias
preserved the game for Rodriguez, recording his his 4th save. Taylor
Jungmann(7-7) was hit with the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners
giving up 5 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings.
Craig Ahrndt was clearly disappointed after the game. 'It was a manager's
nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have had this one.'
