Jason Hammel took a no-hitter into the 6th inning at Busch Stadium as the
Tampico Stogies pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the New York The Yanks
by the count of 3 to 2.
Tampico scored the winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning plating 2 runs
using 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Josh Donaldson got things going
when he ripped a solo home run. After another out, Gregory Polanco stepped
in and he doubled. Yasmany Tomas then was walked intentionally. Brett
Gardner was up next and he drew a walk to load the bases. Cory Spangenberg
came up to bat and slapped a single resulting in a mighty exciting win for
Tampico and the 27,372 home town fans in attendance. Both teams finished the
game with 5 hits.
The win was credited to Kevin Gausman(2-8) who went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing
no runs. The right-handed Hammel lost his no-hit bid when Shin-Soo Choo
singled with one out in the 6th inning. Kyle Lohse(0-1) absorbed the loss in
relief. He allowed Tampico 3 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings of work.
'Wow, that was fun!', Gausman said following the game. 'Once in a while you
play a game that reminds you just why you got into this business to begin
with!'
