Center fielder Aaron Altherr hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI as the San Ybel
Islanders defeated the Oakland Athletics in 12 innings by the score of 5 to 4
at Progressive Field.
Both teams had scored 4 runs after nine full innings. San Ybel won the game in
the 12th inning. Alcides Escobar stroked a single. Jacoby Ellsbury stepped
up next and he doubled. Altherr then laced a one-base hit making San Ybel
the victors to the delight of the home town faithful. Despite losing,
Oakland out-hit San Ybel 15 to 12.
The victory was credited to Chi Chi Gonzalez(2-1) who went 2/3 of an inning,
allowing no runs. J.J. Hoover(1-4) absorbed the loss in relief. He
surrendered 3 hits and 1 walk in 2 and 1/3 innings.
