Nelson Cruz had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the North Dallas Fire Ants bested the
Nimrod Numnuts 6 to 4 at Stigman's Mound.
Cruz was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day at
their team's expense. He stroked a base-hit in the 2nd inning, lined a
one-base hit in the 4th inning, ripped a single in the 6th inning and lost
the ball over the fence for three runs in the 8th inning. Nimrod had a
chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
Matt Garza(7-10) went 7 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Jon
Niese(5-8) absorbed the loss. He allowed 7 hits and 1 walk in 5 and 1/3
innings.
When questioned about the loss, Mark Salzwedel said, 'The fans got to see an
exciting game out there tonight. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it done this
time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the smiles.'
