At Streater Park, the Streator faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel. Jesse Chavez(4-4) finally bested his Streator counterpart,
Tyler Matzek(2-5), by the score of 2 to 0.
Dyersville jumped out to the early lead in the first inning plating an
isolated run on 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Ben Zobrist delivered a
base-hit. Brandon Moss got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim.
Rene Rivera then doubled. That scoring would be all that was needed. The
pitchers took over after the 2nd inning as neither team was able to score
again.
Chavez got help from Greg Holland who was credited with his 14th save. Matzek
was charged with the loss. He was unable to control the Dyersville offense
and allowed 10 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.
Dyersville now has a record of 29-36. With the loss Streator now has a record
of 32-33.
