Right fielder Giancarlo Stanton cracked a homer and had 2 RBI and A.J. Burnett
was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game as
the Hoffman Estates Penguins won a heart-stopping victory over the Yuma
Desert Rats, 5 to 4.
The game was won by Hoffman Estates when they scored a run in the bottom of
the 9th inning. Melky Cabrera laced a base-knock. Seth Smith was next and
he stroked a single. Starlin Castro was the next batter, but he struck out.
One out later, Andrew McCutchen came up and he was walked intentionally to
load the bases. Nolan Arenado stepped into the box and smacked a single
giving Hoffman Estates the victory and sending the 18,414 home-town fans home
happy. Hoffman Estates rapped out 10 hits for the night.
Burnett(7-8) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 4 runs. Tony
Watson(1-1) was hit with the loss in relief. He surrendered 1 run and 3 hits
in 2/3 of an inning.
