Cliff Lee dominated striking out 10 Glen Oaks batters as the Columbus Crowd
staged a dramatic comeback over the Glen Oaks Bombers by a score of 4 to 3 at
The Horseshoe.
Columbus scored the winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 2
base hits. After an out was recorded, Nate McLouth began the Columbus spurt
when he slapped a one-base hit. McLouth was safe at second on a stolen base.
One out later, Andre Ethier then popped a two-run clout over the fence
resulting in an exciting win for Columbus and a raucous post-game celebration
by the home town fans. Overall Columbus out-hit Glen Oaks 11 to 8.
Paco Rodriguez(1-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2/3 of an
inning. The loss was charged to Mariano Rivera(0-1) in relief. 'Now there is
a lesson in perseverance for you,' Ethier noted. 'It was looking pretty dim
there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it really paid off in
spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there at the end!'
