The ice-cold Vernon Hillbillies pitching coach might be looking for a new job
soon. His team allowed 16 runs while Lucas Harrell(11-7), with relief help
from Jeremy Affeldt, surrendered 3 runs to Vernon in a laugher.
Will Venable helped send the fans home happy. He launched a three-run homer
in the 4th inning, laced a base-hit which plated a run in the 5th inning and
singled bringing in two baserunners in the 8th inning. DeKalb provided
plenty of action in the 8th inning which saw them score 8 runs on 6 hits.
DeKalb had 17 hits for the night while Vernon had 5.
Bronson Arroyo(8-7) suffered the loss. He was unable to control the DeKalb
offense and allowed 9 hits and 2 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.
'I was in my hotel room the other night, working on my swing and made some
adjustments,' Venable said. 'I'm always working on it. If they are getting
you out certain ways, you've got to make changes.'
