Prince Fielder ripped 3 homeruns and had 9 RBI as the Detroit Iron Gloves were
badly beaten by the Chicago Colts, 16 to 2.
It seemed that Detroit pitching was serving up softballs for Fielder to hit.
He belted a three-run homer in the 1st inning, banged out a single bringing
in two baserunners in the 2nd inning, smacked a one-base hit in the 4th
inning, blasted a two-run home run in the 7th inning and smashed a two-run
homer in the 8th inning. Chicago bats were hot in the 7th inning when they
had 5 runs on 5 hits. Chicago simply wore out the Detroit pitching staff,
scoring in 6 different innings.
The winning pitcher was Matt Cain(8-7) who allowed 1 run in 7 innings. Johnny
Cueto(10-6) was tagged with the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 6 and
1/3 innings.
'It's almost like the ball was trying to hit my bat,' Fielder said. 'Whenever
I would swing, the ball found the sweet spot.'
