Ben Revere had 2 base hits as the Tombstone Huckleberries came back to win one
over California Luv, 3 to 2.
Tombstone came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning with 3
runs on 4 base hits. Emilio Bonifacio opened up the inning nicely when he
singled. Bonifacio swiped second base. Jimmy Rollins was the next batter,
but he struck out. Alejandro De Aza followed next and he ripped a
base-knock. Tombstone continued their aggressive style with another stolen
base. Tombstone got their 2nd stolen base of the inning. Revere was next
and he slapped a single. Marco Scutaro then delivered a base-hit. Josh
Hamilton followed next and he hit a deep fly. Andy Pettitte(6-3) was helped
out by Fernando Rodney who pitched a perfect ninth and recorded his 30th
save.
The loss was charged to Josh Beckett(4-12). He pitched 8 and 1/3 innings and
surrendered just 4 hits and no walks. Doug Salzwedel was very happy after the
game, 'It's great to come back and win it in your last at bats! Our guys just
wouldn't give up. And did you see the fans - one minute they're laughing and
screaming down all sorts of unprintable stuff at our guys - the next minute -
SILENCE! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win tonight!'
