Alex Cobb had a strong outing as the Streator Reds came back to win one over
Nimrod Numnuts, 2 to 1.
Streator won the game with a rally in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs using 3
hits. Josh Willingham led off and keyed the rally when he drew a walk.
Chase Headley struck out, unable to help the rally. Yonder Alonso then
doubled. Carlos Santana was up next and he doubled. Justin Ruggiano came to
the plate and laced a base-hit. Ruggiano took his lead and swiped second.
Streator out-hit Nimrod for the game, 6 hits to 3.
The win went to Ryan Cook(1-0) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. The losing
pitcher was Jose Veras(0-1) in relief. He saw his ERA jump from 2.25 to 4.50
as gave up 1 run without retiring a batter.
Ralph Madara was feeling mighty fine as he answered questions in his office
after the game, 'Now that was one fine ending! Did you see how the crowd just
sat there in silence after the winning run scored? Here we are celebrating
wildly, and the stadium is cloaked in virtual silence. Weird. but GREAT!'
