run separated the combatants at game's end. The California Luv won by the
slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.
California scored the winning runs in the bottom of the 8th inning scoring 2
runs using 3 hits. Eric Hosmer led off and got things going when he lined a
single. Pablo Sandoval stepped into the batter's box and he ripped a
one-base hit. After an out was recorded, Yunel Escobar stepped in and he was
walked intentionally to load the bases. Dustin Ackley followed next and he
stroked a base-hit. Lucas Duda stepped into the box and grounded into a
double play. California rapped out 11 hits for the night.
Joe Smith(5-1) allowed 1 run in 2/3 of an inning, and picked up the victory.
Vinnie Pestano recorded the save, his 7th. Bud Norris(12-9) suffered the
loss.
