Catcher Russell Martin had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the SSB Tar Heels staged a
dramatic comeback over the Burbank Tigers by a score of 8 to 7 at Angels
Stadium.
SSB won the game with a rally in the bottom of the 9th inning with 2 runs
utilizing 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Dexter Fowler was the
sparkplug when he was hit by a pitch. One out later, Cody Ross came up and
he stroked a base-hit. Jerry Hairston Jr then ripped a base-knock. Martin
was up next and he lined a one-base hit. SSB kept the pressure on throughout
the contest as they scored in 6 different innings.
John Axford(7-3) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. Anibal
Sanchez(7-13) suffered the loss. He was knocked around by SSB, allowing 13
hits and 3 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings.
Craig Ahrndt was all smiles after the ballgame, 'It sure was looking pretty
dim there for a while, but our guys never gave up - and neither did our fans
- they kept cheering us on. What a sweet win!'
