J.P. Arencibia left the yard and had 2 RBI as the Vernon Hillbillies outscored
the Burbank Tigers 7 to 3.
Vernon went ahead for good in the top of the 5th inning plating one
baserunner. After an out was recorded, Anthony Rizzo drew a walk. Melky
Cabrera was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Ryan Theriot then
doubled. Kelly Johnson got his chance to keep things going, but he went down
on strikes. Vernon kept the pressure on throughout the contest as they
scored in 6 different innings.
Yovani Gallardo(13-9) got the win allowing 3 runs in 7 innings. Gallardo got
help from Guillermo Mota who earned his 1st save. Jon Lester(9-11) took the
loss. He got hit hard, allowing 10 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.
John Stryker was just happy to get a win, 'We've had such a bad streak of
games -- boy, it's great to get the monkey off our back. Now maybe we can
relax a little and play the kind of baseball of which we are capable.'
