One run was the difference at the ballpark as the Yuma Desert Rats defeated
the California Luv 3 to 2.
Yuma won the game with a rally in the bottom of the 8th inning scoring 2 runs
on 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Erick Aybar started the attack as he
stroked a base-hit. Eric Thames was next and he popped a two-run clout over
the fence. Matt Kemp got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim.
Miguel Montero followed and he doubled. California threatened in the 9th but
their rally came up short.
Drew Storen(5-2) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. Vinnie
Pestano(0-3) was the losing pitcher in relief. He gave up 2 runs in 2 and
1/3 innings and saw his ERA jump from 3.44 to 3.72.
'We just made a lot of mistakes, mostly mental,' Greg Edens said. 'It's bad
enough when the other team beats you, but when you start beating yourselves,
that's really bad.'
