Cliff Lee reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts and Brooks Conrad cleared the
bases with his grand slam as the Columbus Crowd defeated the SSB Tar Heels by
the score of 6 to 4 at The Horseshoe.
Lee(4-12) delivered a fine performance for Columbus. He was reached for 9
hits and 3 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings. Columbus had a total of 10 hits for
the game.
Lee got help from Joaquin Benoit who was credited with his 6th save. Clayton
Richard(1-6) was the losing pitcher. He allowed Columbus 5 runs in 2 innings
of work.
The Columbus fans were thrilled by the performance put forth by Lee, but it
was clearly his strikeouts that they enjoyed most. 'When he reached 10
strikeouts the fans showed him their appreciation with a loud cheer.' Frank
Lopeman said following the game.
