Curtis Granderson smacked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Long Grove CG as the
Nimrod Numnuts staged a comeback win over the Vernon Hillbillies by the count
of 8 to 7.
Nimrod came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs.
After an out was recorded, Mike Carp began the Nimrod spurt when he drew a
walk. Granderson was next and he cracked a two-run shot. Paul Konerko was
next to bat, but he was a strikeout victim. The Vernon batters went down
meekly in the bottom of the 9th.
Henry Rodriguez(2-0) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 4 innings. Rodriguez
was helped out by Eduardo Sanchez who recorded his 9th save. Fernando
Salas(4-2) was the loser in relief. By surrending 1 run without retiring a
batter his ERA jumped from 1.21 to 1.61.
'The only way this one could have been better', said Rodriguez, 'was if we had
played it at home.'
