Some important dates are coming
up soon. The season’s trade deadline is August 5. Teams must decide whether to
trade that injured player with a wonderful card or buy some pennant run/playoff
upgrades.
I offer to host a league get
together on either Saturday 8/4 or Sunday 8/5, which incidentally coincides
with season trade deadline We could grill some burgers and brats. I am located
on the near north side (one block off of the Kennedy expressway). If someone is
more central, no problem, just step forward.
There have been two
nominations for the executive committee position of Greg Edens.
They are Adam Smith and Mike Aldrich, both nominations
have been seconded and are good choices in my opinion.
Thus far, these are the
suggested rules changes. Note, the first two have been seconded, while the last
three remain only proposed, not yet seconded.
A manager
may veto any trade deemed not in the best interest of the league. Any
questionable trade may be overturned if 3/4 of the non-involved managers feel
that the trade is detrimental or appears to be a “loan” transaction.
A league vote may be requested for any reason deemed not in the best
interest of the league. The reason need not be one specifically prohibited
by the rules.

Proposal:
Effective with the 2014 Greater Chicago season, the league will play with no
designated hitter.
Proposal: Starting with
the 2013 post season, a position player must have 150 or more MLB AB to start a
playoff game. Position players with 50-149 AB can be carried on playoff rosters
and come into games as replacements (pinch hit/pinch run/defense), but cannot
start.

or more MLB AB to start a playoff game. Position players with 50-199 AB can be
carried on playoff rosters and come into games as replacements (pinch hit/pinch
run/defense), but cannot start.
