Third baseman Matt Downs slammed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI at Englefield Green
where the smoking-hot Nimrod Numnuts beat the ice-cold Egham Raiders by the
score of 7 to 5.
Downs was a one-man wrecking crew. He lifted one out of the park for a two
run home run in the 1st inning, blasted a two-run home run in the 3rd inning
and banged out a single bringing in a run in the 7th inning. Egham had a
chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
The win was credited to Ubaldo Jimenez(4-2) who went 7 innings allowing 2
runs. Eduardo Sanchez got the save, his 6th. The losing pitcher was J.A.
Happ(1-5).
Nimrod continued on their recent roll, their winning streak now reaching 7
games and counting. Mark Salzwedel held court after the contest, 'Everything
is coming up aces right now. It is important for our team to ride this wave
as long as we can. Every win is important.'
