Jason Vargas carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Burbank Tigers
defeated the Dublin Pubcrawlers in 10 innings 4 to 3 at the ballpark.
Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings. Burbank won the
hard fought contest in the 10th inning. Adrian Beltre doubled. Scott
Podsednik was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. Daric Barton
then laced a base-hit. Edwin Encarnacion came up and he slapped a single
making Burbank the victors to the delight of the home town faithful. The
game was a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.
The win was credited to Vargas(8-8) who went the whole way allowing 3 runs.
The left-handed Vargas had his no-hit bid broken up by Joe Mauer who tripled
with one out in the 6th inning. Javier Lopez(0-3) was charged with the loss
in relief.
