DUES AND TRADE FEES MUST BE PAID BEFORE BEGINNING YOUR DRAFT. Dues for 2009 are $40. As per the rules if you have traded one of your top 3 picks for 2010 or 5 or more picks total, you will also be assessed the $20 prize money portion of the dues for 2010.

Trade fees and totals are listed at the bottom of this newsletter. You can pay on-line via PayPal. I have a PayPal account and that is my preferred method of payment. I suggest anyone who does not have an account sign up at www.paypal.com. Using PayPal you can pay with funds either from a checking account or from a credit card. Either way, please direct payment to LPrezdente@hotmail.com. If paying via Credit Card, indicate that it is for a Service. If you do not want to use PayPal, then send a check to me (Dennis Martin) at: 502 Percy St, Oxnard, CA 93033-7100.

If payment in full of all dues and trade fees has not been received by the time your first pick comes up in the 2009 draft, then you will forfeit that pick. The only exceptions are those teams that will have negative balances or balances under $10 after prize money is applied. If you pay early, make sure that you include enough to cover any excess trading that you might do between now and the January 9 deadline (i.e. if you pay your current balance as of now and then make a dozen trades in the next 5 weeks, so as to run your balance back over $10, then you will have to submit a second payment).

BALLPARK CHANGES DUE PRIOR TO BEGINNING YOUR DRAFT. 11 out of the 20 teams are eligible to change their park this year: COL (Frank), CSW (RickG), ACC (Rob), CIA (Scott), DYE (Jim), HUC (Doug), JEF (Steve), NDF (AdamA), BUR (Wes), CAL (Greg), and DUB (AdamS). The other 9 teams are locked into existing leases and cannot make changes. The current effects and lease info along with the rules for making changes are posted at http://www.lprezdente.net/baseball/2009/season/ParkEffects.htm

35-MAN ROSTER SIZE SET AT JANUARY 9 DEADLINE. Any team that has more than 35 total players and picks after the January 9 trade deadline will forfeit their lowest picks until they are down to 35 total. As it stands right now, DUB (AdamS), CRC (Alan), COL (Frank), and BUR (Wes) are the only teams over the limit. DUB has 21 players and 15 picks while CRC, COL, and BUR have 20 players and 16 picks, so that is 36 total for each of them. The picks that all 4 of them stand to lose are all in the 15th round, however.

There are just three teams under the limit: NIM (20+14) and SRD (19+15) each with 34 total, and CHI (20+13) with 33.

The other 13 teams currently stand at 35 players+picks and so have nothing to worry about unless they make an imbalanced trade between now and the January 9 deadline.

Taxi Draft Set As of December 22: In addition to the 400 players that were protected on regular rosters, there were 75 players that were kept on taxi squads. That means that there will be 25 picks in the taxi draft following the completion of the regular draft. The number allotted to each team and the order is fixed immediately following the taxi transaction deadline on December 22 and prior to the application of any post-protect trades.
