2005 Rule Change Proposals

  1. I think moving the monthly trade deadline back has been good, but that putting it on the 4th of the month does not quite leave enough of a margin between then and when the pitching rotations and roster moves are due on the 9th of the month. I think most people have already discussed deals or at least have them in mind, so they do not necessarily need a lot of time between when the results are published and the deadline. Therefore, I think the trade deadline should be move up to the 2nd of each month. That should give a minimum of 48 hours for trading after the results from the previous month have been published, and then gives a full week between the deadline and when rosters and rotations are due.

Proposal 1 PASSED 17-2.

  1. Because the Strat ratings come out in January, we should move the start of our season back to April, and play an 8 month schedule from April-November. The off-season schedule, then could look like this:
    1. December 24: 20-man protect lists and taxi squad transactions due
    2. January 9: “trade deadline” when excess draft picks above 35 total players and picks are forfeited; ball park effect changes due
    3. Mid-January: draft begins online after Strat ratings are published
    4. Mid-March (third Saturday): completion of the draft (in-person if necessary)
    5. April 4 (or 2nd if #1 passes): trade deadline for April games

Proposal 2 PASSED 13-6.

  1. If # 2 does not pass, then I think we should set some official off-season dates. The following would best fit what we traditionally have done:
    1. December 9: 20-man protect lists and taxi squad transactions due
    2. December 24: “trade deadline” when excess draft picks above 35 total players and picks are forfeited; ball park effect changes due
    3. January 1: draft begins online
    4. Mid-February (third Saturday): completion of the draft (in-person if necessary)
    5. March 4 (or 2nd if #1 passes): trade deadline for March games
    6. Play 8 month schedule March to October as it is done now

Proposal 3 does not apply because proposal 2 passed.

  1. Dues for the following season and trade fees must be paid at the season trade deadline at the beginning of August. Until dues and trades fees are paid, a manager cannot trade picks for the draft following the upcoming one. For example, if a manager has not paid their dues as of August, 2005, then they cannot trade any picks for the 2007 draft.

Proposal 4 FAILED 6-10.

  1. Dues for the upcoming season and all trade fees must be paid prior to the start of the draft (i.e. January 1). If the online draft starts and a pick comes up for a manager who had not paid their outstanding dues and trade fees (if their balance is > $5) then that pick is waived and moved to the end of the regular draft.

Proposal 5 PASSED 12-4.
