SUPER HAL BULLPEN DECISIONS
The computer manager uses many factors to help it decide
when to remove a pitcher and which reliever to bring in. The original computer manager logic uses
such information as the current score, inning, base situation, batter, on deck
batter, available bench players, etc. to reach its decision.
Built on top of that layer of logic are the optional
Computer Manager Pitcher Settings and the Super Hal bullpen logic. These two items either supersede or
complement the original computer manager, depending on how they are configured.
Care must be used when creating these settings so that an
undesired result does not occur. We recommend that you practice the various
combination of settings and play against the computer manager with those
settings to see the results.
With a little practice you should be able to master the
system, and you should be able to customize the computer manager to make
virtually any pitching change that you desire.
To help enhance your understanding of how the computer
manager reaches its decision you can consult the priority order of the Super
Hal bullpen decisions that follows:
1. "Force" a Super Hal Logic Line to be used (this
overrides all other settings)
2. Max innings pitched exceeded for starter or reliever
3. *Don't remove unless he allows ? runs and/or falls below
? fatigue level
4. *Do not let Hal remove
5. Logic lines in Super Hal settings - used to determine
which pitcher to bring in
6. Specialized settings such as "avoid lefties",
"quick hook", etc. are consulted
7. Original computer manager logic is used, as altered by
above items
* - in these cases the pitcher will still be removed if the
computer manager decides a pinch hitter should be used for him.
Refer to Super Hal bullpen and Computer Manager Pitcher Settings for more details regarding bullpen usage.
